The dynamic wing lit-up the Principality Stadium on finals day last season with a sparkling hat-trick of tries in his side’s 5-29 victory over Nant Conwy. That helped to make it a league and cup double for the Mawr as they celebrated the greatest season in their history.
But Congreve (watch his hat-trick HERE) then decided to step up a level and join Newbridge in the WRU National Championship. That experiment is now over and he has return to his former club just in time to be selected for their round two home clash with Llangennech.
Not much has changed since Congreve left. Brynmawr are leading with way in Division 1 East with a perfect record of seven wins from seven matches and they easily overcame Blackwood 68-17 in Round 1. Llanegennech beat fellow Divison 1 West side Dunvant 22-5 in their opening game.
Double champions Ammanford, who won the Plate in 2009 and 2011, will be favourites to beat Division 2 East side Pill Harriers at home, while 2017 winners Penallta host Gorseinon. The Pitmen, who also won the Plate in 2012 are lying in second in Division 1 East having lost only once in seven outings.
They beat Abercarn 61-3 in Round 1, while Gorseinon enjoyed a 27-18 win over Whitland. Gorseinon, however, have yet to win a match in Division 1 West this month.
Division 1 West leaders Felinfoel, who won 28-10 at Penclawdd in Round 1, will be looking to become the first team this season to lower the colours of Division 1 West Central table-toppers Glynneath in one of the games of the day.
Glynneath, who won 59-5 against Nantymoel in the last round, came down from the WRU National Championship last season and have won all six league games to date.
Unbeaten Birchgrove, who are sitting proudly on top of Division 2 West Central after six wins and a draw, will be eyeing up an upset when they host Pwllheli. The home side beat Waunarlwydd 18-15 in the opening round and now take on the team that are currently second in Division 1 North.
It will be an all Division 1 East Central battle at Cambrian Welfare, who reached the Bowl final in 2015, when they host Porth Quins. Cambrian are fifth in the table, two places ahead of Quins, and beat their rivals 14-13 away from home on the opening day of the season.
Cilfynydd, now 125 year old, host North Wales champions, and last season’s runners-up, Nant Conwy. Nant won 25-19 at Bro Ffestiniog in Round 1, but are currently only third in Division 1 North having already lost twice this season.
Meanwhile, Clifynydd are third in Division 2 East Central having lost two of their six games. They had a walk-over against Abercwmboi in the opening round.
