There were six tries in a thrilling second half, four of them from Glantaf, as they overturned a 12-3 interval deficit to run out 31-24 winners and become the first team this season to beat the Llanelli-based side, who remain on top of the table.

The shock 22-3 defeat to CAVC at Cowbridge seven days earlier stimulated a stunning reaction from Glantaf as they stood up to the powerful Sir Gar pack and put in a stunning second half performance. Sir Gar got off to a flying start with tries from hooker Llew Phillips-Taylor and centre Bradley Roderick to race into a 12 point lead in the opening 10 minutes.

But there were second half tries from both locks, Teddy Williams and Cai Davies, and then fellow pack members, hooker Oscar O’Hare and No 8 Craig Miller, as Glantaf mounted one of the biggest fightbacks of the season

It only took five minutes in the second half for them to take the lead with converted tries from Davies and Miller. A second driving line-out try from Sir Gar Phillips-Taylor levelled the scores at 17-17 three minutes later, but Glantaf stuck to their wide game and came up trumps with hooker O’Hare’s score to make it 24-17.

Then came Wales Under 18 cap Williams’ try at the posts that extended the lead to 31-17 to secure the bonus-point and the victory. There was just enough time for Sir Gar to grab their fourth try from scrum half Dan Jones, and two bonus-points, but they were blown away in the second half.

Glantaf’s victory keeps them well in the hunt for a play-off place, but the biggest winners on the night were probably reigning champions Coleg Y Cymoedd, who can close the gap at the top to only two points if they pick up a bonus point win against Coleg Llandrillo at Sardis Road.

Whitchurch HS head west to meet Gower College, a team they have yet to beat on the road, while fifth place Gwent College travel to Llandovery for another crucial clash.
