Cynon Valley and Pontypool Schools kicked off proceedings, Cynon Valley winning the DC Thomas Cup.

In what was a scintillating match of the day, the Dewar Shield final saw the score level three times between Swansea Schools and Cardiff Schools, with three converted tries a-piece before a Harrison James penalty finally broke the deadlock five minutes from time in Cardiff Schools’ favour.

James, of Llanishen Rugby Club and Llanishen High School, had already contributed 11 points before slotting the all-important goal kick to ensure his teammates went home with the prestigious trophy.

The other matches were all for the U15 age group. Neath Schools came out on top against local rivals Aberavon Schools in the Lawrence Miller Bowl, winning 23-17 in the end and Swansea Valley Schools overcame another West Wales side Carmarthen Schools 34-27 in the Morgan Griffiths Plate.

Five girls’ U15 schools’ teams representing their regions competed in a round of preliminary games at Cardiff Arms Park, Ysgol Rhydywaun and Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy proceeding to the final at Principality Stadium. Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy came out on top, winning 39-10.
