DALE McIntosh has told his Merthyr players to put their cup final heartache behind them by being crowned Principality Premiership champions in the coming weeks.

The Ironmen slipped to a 25-19 defeat to arch rivals Cardiff in the WRU National Cup final last weekend but are currently nine points clear at the top of the Premiership.

And McIntosh wants his players to take out their frustrations on Carmarthen Quins tomorrow.

“It was tough mentally and emotionally to lose the cup final,” he said.

“We’ve got to understand that we will lose games from time to time. It’s about getting tighter as a group now and fortunately for us we’ve got a lot to play for in the league. Hopefully that will galvanise us a little bit more towards the league.

“We’ve got three tough Premiership games left but it’s definitely within our hands and it’s down to us whether we want to take it or not. It’s pretty simple we need to win our next two games and I think we’ve won the league.

“It sounds simple and it is mathematically simple but emotionally and physically it will be tricky. You’ve got Pontypridd who can maximise 112 points while Cardiff can maximise 115 points but they’ve got to win their games.

“There’s still a few more ball to be juggled. If we lose the league I’ll probably be cleaning windows next season!”

Elsewhere, second place Llandovery will be looking to keep the pressure on Merthyr as they travel to Newport, while Pontypridd will be expecting maximum points from their trip to Bargoed.

Steve Law’s Cardiff will be confident of building on their cup final success as they host Ebbw Vale at the Arms Park. Cardiff currently reside on fourth position and have an outside chance of a league and cup double.

Relegation threatened Bedwas welcome Swansea to the Bridge Field, while RGC1404 travel to face Cross Keys. Maximum points are a must for Llanelli who face Neath at the Principality Stadium with the west Walians in a battle with Bridgend to avoid having to play a relegation play-off against Championship winners Pontypool.

Bridgend travel to face Aberavon in another vital clash.
