Brecon complete double and set sights on Wanderers

There was more joy for Brecon at the weekend as they completed the league and cup double

Six days on from their WRU National Plate triumph at Principality Stadium, Brecon secured the double with a crushing 13 try, 83-17 home win over Cwmbran to take the Division 1 East title.

The win moved Brecon on to 98 points with one regular league fixture remaining, which is at home against Penallta on Wednesday night. They will then turn their attention towards the two-legged play-off with Division 1 East Central champions Glamorgan Wanderers for a place in next season’s WRU National Championship.

Although the dates have yet to be confirmed, the first leg at Brecon. The dates have been announced for the other play-off ties between Division 1 West Central winners Ystalyfera and Division 1 West champions Felinfoel.

The first leg was at Ynysydarren Park on Tuesday night with Ystalylfera making home advantage tell by winning 34-28. The return leg is at Felinfoel on Sunday.

Dowlais wrapped up their Division 1 East campaign with a 40-5 home win over Nelson – an eighth win from nine matches to finish the season after three wins 10 defeats from the first 13.

In Division 1 East Central, Porth Harlequins took their bid to finish outside the bottom three to the final day of the season. Their 17-7 win over Gilfach Goch means a win at Treorchy in their final league match of the season on Wednesday night will see them leapfrog St Joseph’s, who are currently three points ahead and have completed their fixtures.
