Dale McIntosh’s Ironmen have been the team to beat at Premiership level for some time now and their squad for the 2019-20 term looks particularly strong.
Former Wales and Cardiff Blues wing Czekaj and lock Damian Welch are the headline arrivals.
Czekaj brings a wealth of first class and international experience and will be a real asset to head coach McIntosh with nine Test caps on his CV, the last of which came in 2010.
The 33-year-old knows Welsh rugby like the back of his hand following a stint with the Blues and also had a spell with French Division Two side Colomiers.
He has also brushed off a serious struggle with concussion to now be fully fit ahead of the new Premiership season.
Welch, meanwhile, has joined from Cross Keys where he was captain following the Pandy Park outfit’s relegation to the Championship.
Both players will certainly be fine acquisitions as far as Merthyr supporters are concerned.
Other new arrivals at The Wern are back Ashley Norton, fellow livewire threat Sam Jones – who has signed from RGC 1404 – and Ryan (Bob) Thomas who has joined from Bedlinog.
Confusingly, another Ryan Thomas – he of Llanelli RFC – is another fresh face.
