The former Monmouth schoolboy made 18 appearances for the Black & Ambers in his first senior season before heading down under to continue his playing development in New Zealand. Quick and elusive, he scored four tries last season and will be looking to kick-on when the new Indigo Group Premiership starts in September.

“I’m really pleased that we have secured the skills of Dai for the coming season. He’s been heavily involved with the Dragons Academy set up and has recently been playing in New Zealand developing his game,” said Newport coach Ty Morris.

“Dai has huge potential with his electrifying pace and ability to beat defenders giving us an extra threat.” Gwent rivals Ebbw Vale have boosted their back row stocks by adding British Army and Combined Services cap Craig Fillier to their squad.

A former Wales U18 rugby league international, he scored three tries for Brynmawr at Principality Stadium when they won the WRU National Plate last year and also helped ‘The Mawr’ complete a league and cup double by adding the Division 1 East title.

“As a local boy from Blaina, I used to have am Ebbw Vale season ticket with my dad and attended all their home games. It’s a real privilege to be part of the team I have such fond memories of watching and admiring as a youngster,” said Fillier.
