Their second round 14-0 win over the Scarlets means the holders are the only unbeaten team going into the third and final round in a fortnight.
Victory over Cardiff Blues at Cardiff Arms Park on Sunday 1 September would ensure another title for the Ospreys. However, a win for the Blues, who defeated RGC 48-7 on Sunday, would give them and the Scarlets the opportunity to claim the silverware.
Lauren Smyth was the only Ospreys try scorer in Friday night’s win in difficult conditions, Elinor Snowsill adding the conversion. The travelling side were also awarded a penalty try.
Ospreys regional lead and back row Siwan Lillicrap said, “We are very pleased, it was a tough, physical game in tough conditions.
“We are very proud of the way the girls conducted themselves to get a hard fought win against a tough Scarlets side and to go two games without conceding a point is particularly pleasing.”
Despite the loss, Scarlets lead Daryl Morgan is encouraged by the progress of his charges.
He said, “We are really proud of the way our players stuck to their task. It was always going to be an uphill struggle against the Ospreys with so many international players in their squad, but the girls battled right through to the end. We’re in a really good place, our squad is incredibly young and the future is really bright. We’re going the right way.”
The Blues scored eight tries in their victory including hat-tricks for Paige Randall and Rebekah O’Loughlin and further touchdowns for Millie Williams and Seren Gough-Walters. Wales outside half Robyn Wilkins improved four of them.
Wales Women Sevens’ Bethan Davies converted her own try in front of a good home crowd at Tynewydd Field.
The final round takes place at Cardiff Arms Park on Sunday 1 September with the home side aiming to keep alive their chances of claiming the title.
