CARDIFF head coach Steve Law insists his top of the table side won’t be basement club Bridgend on Saturday.

The Blue and Blacks are top of the Indigo Group Premiership with the Ravens propping up the table on a mere six points. On paper Cardiff should ease past Bridgend at the Brewery Field tomorrow.

“Bridgend have been very unlucky and they lost to Pontypridd at the last play of the game,” said Law. “We definitely won’t be taking them lightly because if you look at their performances they haven’t been far away at all.

“If you’ve got aspirations to be the best, which we do, then you need consistency in terms of your results. We can’t afford to underestimate teams.

“It’s not good to turn up against the best sides then lose to someone who is at the wrong end of the table. We haven’t even thought about the Aberavon game yet our full focus is on beating Bridgend because we know it’s against a quality side who will be desperate to get a win.”

The weekend’s Premiership action kicks-off on Friday evening with Llandovery travelling to the Wern to face last season’s champions Merthyr in front of the BBC ScrumV cameras. After a disappointing start to the season Merthyr have bounced back and are now up to third in the table.

On Saturday Aberavon host west Wales strugglers Llanelli. Jason Hyatt’s side are second in the table but have a game in hand on Cardiff who they face in a gigantic clash next weekend.

Like Law’s side they can ill afford to slip up as they look to remain unbeaten this season. Tenth place Ebbw Vale will face a stern challenge against Carmarthen Quins this weekend. Quins might be languishing in seventh place but the Steelmen will need to show some character as they look to bounce back from a 78-12 thrashing at the hands of Cardiff in the National Cup last Friday night.

Up in Colwyn Bay Matt Silva’s RGC1404 face Swansea in Parc Eirias. Swansea are currently in eighth place and need a win to lift themselves up the table. The weekend’s action concludes on Sunday with Justin Burnell’s Pontypridd travel east to face Newport at Rodney Parade.

Pontypridd have had an underwhelming start to the season as they hover around midtable. Newport will be desperately keen to move into the top three after a positive start to the Premiership season.
