Hotshot Haymond leads the way

Ewan Rosser

Ebbw Vale may be languishing near the bottom of the Indigo Group Premiership points table, but two Steelmen are leading the way on the points-scoring and try-scoring front.

After eight rounds of action, an unbeaten Cardiff sit top of the table but it’s Ebbw Vale full back Dan Haymond who is leading the race to become the first player to reach the landmark of 100 points in the Premiership – thanks largely to a 16-point haul against RGC where his accurate boot guided his side to a second victory of the campaign.

His tally against the north Walians put him on 93 points, just six points ahead of RGC’s Billy McBryde. Haymond’s accuracy is proving a huge asset to Greg Woods’ side as he has rattled up a 93% success rate from the kicking tee – only Pontypridd’s Diggy Bird has a success rate in the 90s, but he has only claimed 45 points in the season so far.

Ebbw Vale winger Ewan Rosser is leading the try-scoring charts with six touchdowns alongside RGC’s Rhys Tudor. Both players scored in RGC’s defeat to the Steelmen in the last round at Stadiwm Zipworld.

Teenager Rosser has impressed this season at both club and regional level with the Dragons in the Celtic Cup and possesses good feet and a turn of pace and will be hoping for a call-up to the Wales U20 squad, where his brother Jared prospered for a couple of years ago.
