Myhill is a fully paid up member of the front row union, but he is showing the backs how to touch down by leading the try scoring charts with seven. He was the beneficiary of a dominant rolling maul to plunge over against Newport in a 26-20 victory which took the Quins to second place in the Premiership.
Quins Rugby Manager Steff Thomas isn’t overly surprised the hooker is leading the way for the big boys, although he said if he was told at the beginning of the season Myhill would be the leading try-scorer after 10 rounds of action, he would have been taken aback.
“Torin is a hard-working player and he’s happened to be in the right place at the right time to touch down. He’s bagged a couple of tries at the end of lineout drives and scored a couple in broken play,” he said. “He’s an all action, abrasive hooker and is very unlucky not to be playing professionally.”
Myhill’s five-pointer put him in front of Ebbw Vale winger Ewan Rosser and RGC speedster Rhys Tudor who are close behind on six tries apiece.
Moore’s efforts may not be garnering many headlines but he is certainly proving his worth in the heart of the Pontypridd engine room.
The former Wales U20 second row snaffled a staggering five turnovers in his side’s 26-24 defeat to Swansea to surge to the top of the queue alongside Cardiff’s Morgan Allen with 18 turnovers.
Allen led the list with 16 last week but he was only able to secure two turnovers against Merthyr to allow Moore to join him at the head of the pilferer’s list.
Moore is making his presence felt in defence for Ponty as well. He has made 81 tackels with an impressive completion rate of 93% – only teammate Kristian Parker (94%) has a higher completion rate with 93 tackles next to his name. However it is Swansea’s Callum Bowden who leads the way with the most tackles, having snared nine Pontypridd players in last weekend’s nail-biting win to take his season’s tally to 103.
Elsewhere, Ebbw Vale’s Dan Haymond became the second player to crash through the 100-points barrier in his side’s narrow defeat to Bridgend. His five points took him to 103 for the season, with RGC fly half Billy McBryde still leading the way with 117 points.
