The 29-year-old may have had more clubs than Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy combined, but the former Wales U20 back row has certainly made an impact since arriving at the Arm’s Park last season via Bedwas, Pontypool, Swansea, Aberavon, Llanelli, Carmarthen Quins and Ealing Trailfinders.
In his first campaign for the Blue and Blacks he scored an impressive 15 tries from 30 appearances and this season some eye-catching performances have confirmed his status as a force to be reckoned with in both attack and defence.
After 13 rounds of Premiership action, in defence no-one has snaffled more turnovers (21) than Allen with Pontypridd second row Sean Moore (18) his nearest challenger.
On the front foot, Allen has proved an immovable object at times and has 155 carries next to his name with Merthyr’s Phil Rees some distance behind in second place with 127 carries.
Cardiff head coach Steve Law handed Allen the leadership responsibilities for this season and the No 8 has responded in the best possible fashion.
“To be fair he has knuckled down and he is very pro-active within the players group,” said Law. “We attempt to play the type of game where we try and get the ball into the hands of our best ball carriers and as a result Morgan has been able to show his particular skillset.”
Allen’s teammate Gareth Thompson is on the verge of becoming just the third player to reach a century of points in the Premiership.
The Cardiff fly half is on 97 points to sit third in the pecking order as RGC’s Billy McBryde streaks ahead with 137 points with Ebbw Vale’s Dan Haymond second with 114.
