Tries from Chris Davies and Anthony Symons, along with an Eamonn Rees penalty, won it for Newbridge. Dean Gunter converted Tom Richards’ try for Brecon but their reign is over and attention will now turn to their title fight with Newbridge in Division 1 East.

Two-time former winners Penallta booked their place in the semis after seeing off Division 1 West champions Felinfoel 12-8 at Ystrad Mynach with the help of tries from Ryan Davies and Geraint Capel. Matthew Brewer added a conversion.

It was also the perfect way for the Pitmen to pay tribute to their former captain Rob Moore, who died earlier in the week. A minute’s silence was held in his honour before kick-off.

Joining them in the last four are 2011 runners-up Glynneath, who overturned a 16-10 half time deficit to win 35-19 at Birchgrove. Gareth Hall, David Jones, Craig Tennant, Steff Stone and Jed O’Reilly all touched down for Glynneath.

Rhydyfelin are the other side through after overcoming Treorchy 15-6 in what was the battle of the top two in Division 1 East Central.

David Gratton scored a try as well as kicking a conversion and a penalty for the Village, who were beaten finalists seven years ago. Luke Waygood also scored a try.

In the Natioinal Bowl, Tom McAloon – son of ex-Newbridge and Cardiff full-back Brendan – scored all of Fairwater’s points in their 13-3 win over Aberavon Green Stars. Abertysswg won by the same scoreline at Penygraig.

Tumble beat Canton 32-0 with the help of tries from Steven Hewitt, Mike Edwards, Mike Powell and Alex Jones. Hewitt added three conversion and two penalties, while Aberaeron came through their quarter-final at Baglan 17-8.

In the National Shield, Holyhead, Cwmgwrach and South Gower are into the last four. The tie between Rhigos and Pontardawe was postponed.
