Hot on the heels of their epic Specsavers National Plate quarter-final triumph over reigning champions Brecon, they moved 10 points clear at the top of the league table thanks to a 28-16 at home against Blaenavon.
Jimmy Gahan scored twice and Lewis Hudd and Dan Davies grabbed the other tries in another impressive bonus-point victory. Eamonn Rees converted all four tries as Newbridge made the most of Brecon’s postponed fixture against Pontypool United
Brynmawr won 46-12 at home against Monmouth to move up into second. They also have two games in hand on the league leaders and will host Brecon in a vital match on 15 February. Br3econ now have three games in hand on Newbridge.
The ‘Mawr ran in eight tries as Michael Rankine (2), Sam Harding, Zach Stuart, Ryan Gardner, Josh Congreve, Ethan Winstone and Spencer Cawley all crossed the line of the bottom of the table side. Dan Butler added three conversions.
Division 1 East Central leaders Treorchy won 16-10 at Cambrian Welfare while Rhydyfelin – who knocked them out of the Plate and have a game in hand – closed the gap at the top from m eight points to seven following their 29-0 home win over St Josephs.
Lewis Jones, Kevin Briggs, Adam Watton and Ryan Button all went over for the Village with three conversions and a penalty from David Gratton. The win took Rhydyfelin back up into second and above Rumney, who surrendered their 100 per cent winning record after a penalty at the death saw them go down narrowly 21-20 at St Peters.
In Division 1 West, Newcastle Emlyn returned to winning ways with a crushing 58-5 win over Llanelli Wanderers. Dean James and Dan Havard both bagged braces and there were further tries from Dyfed Morgan, Osian Davies, Dan Davies, Llyr Jones and Shaun Leonard.
Llangennech remain four points back after beating Penclawdd 40-15 to move into second above champions Felinfoel, who slipped to their third league defeat of the season – 28-22 at home against Gorseinon.
In Division 1 West Central, Glynneath recorded what could be a crucial 21-12 win at leaders Bonymaen. Grant Bignell’s side stay fourth, but they are now just eight points back and have two games in hand on Bony.
Aled Evans, Owen Nesbitt and Craig Tennant all dotted down for Glynneath with Dylan Francis adding the extras.
Llandudno won the Division 1 North title last season by 18 clear points as they lost only once in 20 games. It has been business as usual this term and the champions made it 12 wins out of 12 as they edged out Bala 17-15.
Bala were the last north Wales side to beat the Goats and they took an early lead with a kick and chase try. The champions hit back with tries by Arthur Lennon and Bobby Davies to lead 12-8 at the break.
A second try to the home side gave them the lead at 15-12 and that first league defeat of the season looked on the cards for the champions. In the end, though, they came through thanks to a corner try from wing Rhys Henderson.
