The two men worked hand in hand in the remarkable rise of Bargoed through the leagues from Division 6 into the Premiership. Now they will be hoping to have a similar impact at Rhymney, who are currently in Division 3 East A.
The vacancy at the Brewers came as a result of Sean Murphy stepping down as head coach. For Lynch it will be a trip down memory lane return to War Memorial Park.
Although originally from New Tredegar, Lynch captained Rhymney 20 years ago after playing for Tredegar, Loughborough University and Pontypool, who he also skippered twice.
As a coach he helped to steer Bargoed from the bottom rung of the WRU playing pyramid to the Premiership. There were seven promotions and numerous Mid District Cup wins during his 17-year sting at Bargoed and he then moved on to Brynmawr and Newport.
Gunter played with Lynch at Pontypool and then moved to Cardiff. He then had a sting as head coach of Norway before settling in at Bargoed as a forwards specialist.
