The students were on fire throughout scoring eight tries in total courtesy of Keian Richards, Joel Broadhurst, Iwan Shenton (twice), Elliot Salt, Ethan McVeigh, Roma Zheng, and Sam Brown. Scrum-half Richards’ try stood out as he brilliantly finished a terrific team try. “I was really played with this result and performance,” said Milton.
“I think if we work hard we can keep getting better and better each week. We used almost a totally different starting XV this week to what we used against Glamorgan Wanderers so we are building some depth.
“Up until recently I hadn’t had the players for 16 months due to covid so I’m happy with our progress.” Elsewhere, Maesteg Harlequins stunned Neath to record a shock 32-23 home victory over the Welsh All Blacks in their WRU Championship Cup opener.
The hosts were on fire with tries from wing Ryan Lovett, second-row Nathan Smith, and No 8 Andrew Healey on his 200th game for the club, while Tadhg McGuckin kicked 12 points while also grabbing a try. Bargoed were also the big winners this weekend as they thrashed Cross Keys 33-13 at Pandy Park.

They scored four tries in total with Steff Thomas, Darren Humphries, James Leadbeater, and Wade Langley touching down. The pick of the tries was Thomas effort as he dummied the ball and ran clear from 45 metres out to touch down, while he also contributed eight points from the kicking tee.
All Cross Keys could muster was a try from Adam Tetley, and eight points from the booth of Curtis Povey. Arguably the game of the day was Narbeth’s 24-20 win at Ystalyfera.
This was a ding dong battle with the lead changing hands several times. The Pembrokeshire club’s power proved too much for the Fera with Ospreys academy wing Cian Abraham showing tremendous pace to score two tries. Ystalyfera very nearly snatched the win with an attacking lineout just five metres out but Narberth’s defence remained firm despite a period of sustained pressure from the hosts.
Meanwhile, Ystrad Rhondda’s home clash with Glamorgan Wanderers was postponed after five players on the away side had to self-isolate as a precaution having come into close contact with a Coronavirus case. Depending on the Coronavirus status of both clubs these sides are scheduled to face each other next Saturday at the Memorial Ground in Glamorgan.
Llandaff earned the bragging rights in the local derby against Llandaff North as they converted a 22-0 interval lead into a 34-12 triumph. To their credit, North hit back after the break to score two tries and were twice held up on the line. Their try scorers were skipper and tight head prop Gareth Harrison and full back Duane Iles.
