The side were keen to make their mark early in the game with a break out wide setting up Mel Burge Davies for the inside pass to run under the sticks for the opening try. Carys Wilkinson converting to hand the visitors the early lead.
Morriston tried to answer back quickly with a robust attack in the oppositions half but struggled to get over the gain line and turn possession into points. Still dominating the territory, the hosts opted for the penalty with Sarah John slotting the three points to narrow the scores.
Looking to take back control, the She-gulls piled on the pressure and picked up a loose ball from a knock-on by Morriston to charge up field and score their second try through Erin Richards. Wilkinson converting to extend their lead 3-14.
Fighting back, Morriston turned on the attack once again to pin the She-gulls back in their own 22. Working their way through the phases, Chelsea Edwards drove over the line for hosts first try of the game. John converting to put the scores at 10-14.
Once again, the Porthcawl side answered back quickly with a breakaway from Eleri Michael who put her foot on the gas to race over for her side’s third try of the match. Wilkinson slotting three from three to take Porthcawl ahead 21-10 at the break.
Coming out for the second half, both sides struggled to gain the upper hand in a tight battle between the two.
In the closing 10 minutes it was Morriston who came charging out of the blocks, with Becky Watkins taking a short, line-out pass to free up Edwards for the brace. The conversion from John just bouncing off the wrong side of the posts to put the final score at Morriston 15-21 Porthcawl.
