The Welsh Rugby Union and the regions are running an eight-week programme of skills development centres around Wales aimed at improving skills and fitness for girls in the under 12 to under 18 age groups (year 7 to year 13 aged girls).

The skills centres are open to players of all abilities – from new to experienced players and will focus on improving core skills and fitness along with positional work.

Community and performance staff will deliver the coaching at the centres which will be run across every rugby region.

WRU Community Director Geraint John said, “It is fantastic to be able to work through further stages of the Pathway to Participation with Skills Development Centres returning for girls in the under 12 to under 18 age groups. We have seen a huge increase in demand from girls to play the game since the return of rugby – including the number of U15 and U18 club and Female Hub teams doubling.

“This is hugely encouraging as we look to increase opportunities, not only for female players, but also for female coaches, referees and volunteers. The skills development centres, run by WRU and regional coaches will support the hard work that club and Female Hub volunteers carry out in the community, along with teachers and hub officers in educational settings.”
