Leighton Jones’ side scored six tries in total with Ieuan Jones, Amosa Nove, Mike Hale, Ashley Sweet, and Kieran Meek touching down. They were also awarded a penalty try. Perhaps the standout try was scored by right-wing Amosa who showed tremendous pace to beat three defenders to touch down at the corner.

“We were rusty, and we’ve got plenty to work on, but it was a win and that’s all we wanted. We scored some nice tries, so it was pleasing,” said head coach Leighton Jones.

“There was a big concern  going into the game that we might be well undercooked. Fair play to our fitness coach Rhys Dyer, he put the boys through their paces and we’d done a lot of contact work.

“We always back ourselves and we knew at half time we just needed to build the phases to get to where we wanted to be. We looked for the miracle pass too often in the second half, but when we settled down the tries started coming.”

Neath also began their league season with a bang as they overcame a resilient Narberth side to record a 30-22 away win. Full back Iestyn Morgan scored their first try after hitting a tremendous angle to run in unopposed from 40 metres out. Outside-half Steff Williams also got in on the try scoring, with No 8 David Griggs powering over from short range for their third.

Zak Fifield’s last gasp try won an enthralling encounter for Glamorgan Wanders, who beat Tata Steel 28-27. Cameron Gibbon and Ryan Shalish also scored tries for Martyn Fowler’s side.

Cardiff Met were also big winners as they comprehensively outplayed Ystalyfera to record a 43-22 win. Danny Milton’s men scored four tries with Dylan Bartlett, Steffan Davies, Iwan Griffith and Rory Morgan crossing.

Elsewhere, Trebanos outfought Cross Keys to run out 21-14 winners at home. Iestyn Lewis, and Matthew Edwards scored their tries, with Josh Williams touching down for Cross Keys who also had a penalty try.

Bargoed ran out 32-10 winners against Beddau. Tries came from James Leadbitter and Matthew Thomas for Bargoed, with a penalty try also being awarded. Josh Prossey kicked a penalty. Beddau’s points came from a Scott Burrows penalty and a try scored by Adam Ashford. who ran in from 50 metres, which was converted by Grant Smith.

Bedwas beat Ystrad Rhonnda with a convincing scoreline of 20-0. Tries from Craig Hudd, Alex Bourne, and one at the posts from Matty Bancroft made up the bulk of the points, with Bancroft adding a conversion and penalty.
