The home side had no reply to the all-round firepower of their visitors and the Pitmen now find themselves five points clear of Newbridge at the top of the table. Newbridge also picked up a big win and have a game in hand.

The Gwent club put Brecon to the sword with a 33-3 home win to extend their good start to the season. The only other unbeaten team in the division is Bedlinog, who opened their account with a narrow 15-10 home win over Risca.

In East Central, St Peter’s came out on top 11-5 in a low scoring slog against Ynysybwl. A try from Lloyd Smith and a couple of penalties ensured ‘The Rocks’ the win in blustery conditions.

The win means St Peter’s remain unbeaten and are level on nine points with league leaders Mountain Ash and Porth Quins. Treorchy’s 27-22 win at Barry also made it two from two and they are still in the mix with eight points.

Mountain Ash’s 18-10 hard-fought home win over Rhydyfelin means they top the table, while Porth Quins enjoyed an impressive 29-24 away win at Rhiwbina.

In Division 1 West, Llangennech edged Gorseinon 26-20 in a close affair that saw the away side eventually emerge victorious. Going into the break 14-6 up, Llangennech managed to keep a spirited Gorseinon at bay to move three points clear at the top.

Aberystwyth pipped Whitland 31-28 in a thriller on the windswept west coast to move into second place and Crymych’s 34-21 triumph over Pembroke move them into third.

In Division 1 West Central, Nantyffyllon and Glynneath are level at the top on nine points after impressive away wins. Nanty were 13-8 victors’ at Birchgrove, while Glynneath won 29-3 at Brynamman.
