An upset looked on the cards at halftime with the visitors deservedly leading 3-13 but in the second half Quins upped their tempo and swept aside Llanelli with four sweeping tries.

Blockbusting winger Morgan Griffiths powered over for a brace while impressive scrum half Rhodri Davies and Dale Ford added one apiece as Llanelli were blown away in the second spell to leave Carmarthen empty handed.

It all started so differently for the men in red when Liam Hutchins broke down the wing before the cover defence hauled him down. Llanelli recycled the ball quickly and moved the ball back to the winger who bundled his way over by the corner flag. Ioan Hughes’ sideline conversion gave the visitors an early 0-7 lead.

Jac Wilson hit back immediately with a short range penalty but missed another opportunity soon after. On 13 minutes, Llanelli went through an attacking set to set up a shot at goal for Hughes, and he made no mistake to put Llanelli 3-10 ahead on 13mins.

Quins struggled to get into the game as Llanelli posed major problems in the first half in attack. Jonathan Lewis burst clean through the last line of defence but his pass was adjudged forward with a clear cut chance going begging.

The home side made hard work of getting into the game, as Llanelli tackled like demons. On a rare attack deep into Llanelli territory, prop Rhys Davies pilfered the ball at the breakdown to further frustrate the home side in what seemed a promising position.

Llanelli had a chance to increase their lead just before the break but Hughes smashed the ball against an upright as Quins managed to clear the danger.

Quins were clearly rattled as the halftime whistle approached and were forced to play the ball from deep inside their own half. Llanelli ended the half with an unstoppable rolling maul which gifted Hughes an easy penalty to give Llanelli a surprise 3-13 lead at the interval.

Quins squandered two clear cut opportunities and continued to struggle to convert pressure into points before replacement prop Thomas Zoogah was sent to the sin bin. His departure signalled a backlash from the home side.

Quins picked up the tempo and Griffiths was awarded a questionable try in the corner and with Steff Marshall’s excellent conversion, the home side had hauled themselves to within three points of Llanelli.

And out of nowhere the Quins snatched the lead when former Wales Sevens speedster Rhodri Lewis outpaced Hughes to touch down out wide to put the home side in front for the first time in the match.

Quins turned the screw further when full back Dale Ford finished off a well worked team try to put the home side 20-13 ahead as Llanelli struggled to turn the tide.

Marshall’s boot extended Quins lead before Griffiths forced his way over in the corner and Marshall piled on the misery to land the touchline conversion to seal the deal.
