Hyatt’s Aberavon and the Black and Ambers both had fine Premiership Cup campaigns and also won their first games of the new league season.
One of the two side’s perfect starts will have to end at the Talbot Athletic Ground.
“It’s been worrying to see professional rugby teams being affected by Covid-19, but we count ourselves lucky to be playing and are looking forward to this weekend,” Hyatt said.
“I was delighted with our bonus-point win at Swansea to start the league season and we are looking to build on that and get some momentum going.
“Newport have been playing very well and watching their footage, I have been surprised. They have a good mix to their game and drive a lot of line-outs.
“Newport traditionally like to throw the ball about, but they have a nice balance now and we always have very close games when we play them.
“I think the two sides match together very well and it should be a very good game. Matt O’Brien is playing 12 for them and he has a good kicking game we need to be ready for.”
After a disappointing defeat at in-form Llandovery in round one, RGC 1404 will hope the home comforts of Parc Eirias will help them get back to winning ways.
Ceri Jones’ side host Pontypridd and the RGC head coach said: “Pontypridd is a team we have got to know well.
“We’ve played them once plus preparing for the game that was postponed due to the Storm.
“They are a different team with Diggy Bird as he is more a kicking 10 than Ben Burnell.
“We will have to deal with that type of game. He scored 23 points and picked up man of the match last week, so he will be a threat.
“They also have the experience in the forwards as well so we know what challenges they bring as a side.”
RGC’s Sam Williams added: “It’s clear where we need to improve and we know what is needed.
“Performance levels, errors and giving away penalties are in our control so as a group we need to do better if we expect to win games. It’s the first home league game and the last game of 2021, so we don’t need any more incentive to put in a performance
“We were on a good run up until Llandovery so it’s about building some momentum again. It was a close run game when we played at Sardis Road and we could have won it but ended up with a defeat. We are expecting another tight and tough game.”
Carmarthen Quins hammered regional rivals Llanelli 30-13 on Thursday night.
Bridgend against Merthyr, Llandovery’s visit to Ebbw Vale and Swansea’s game with Cardiff have both been postponed.
An Ebbw Vale statement read: “Due to a mix of people across the club displaying symptoms of Covid-19 and positive cases at the Wales Under-20’s training camp, the club has taken medical advice and has reluctantly taken the decision to postpone tomorrow’s fixture against Llandovery
