This was the only fixture played in the Championship yesterday after six games were called off due to a combination of bad weather conditions, and Covid. But Bedwas put on a good show scoring five tries courtesy of Matthew Williams (twice), Dion McIntosh, Aaron Billingham, and Matty Bancroft.

Tata Steel looked dangerous behind the scrum, but they were outmuscled by a strong Bedwas pack who held the ascendancy in the set-piece which turned out to be the deciding factor. The try of the match fell to Williams who beat three defenders before running in unopposed from 40 metres out.

Willia Wood scored all of Tata Steel’s points including two tries, with the hosts still winless this season, and sitting one from bottom of the Championship table with a mere point to their name. This result pushed Bedwas up to second, but they still trail leaders Bargoed by two points.

There was also a large number of games postponed in Division One for the same reasons, with the majority of fixtures taking place in north Wales. The stand out result in Division One North was Bala’s 32-0 thrashing of Dolgellau.

COBRA remain at the top of the table despite being held to a 17-17 draw at Llangefni. Pwllheli were also mightily impressive as they thrashed Bro Ffestiniog 53-6. Elsewhere, Bethesda claimed a very narrow 11-10 win over Ruthin in a game which was played in poor conditions.

Bethesda’s only try of the game was scored by Shaun Thomas who powered over from short range, while Dafydd Williams contributed six points from the kicking tee. Nant Conwy were also mightily impressive as they flexed their muscles to come out on top with a 22-3 win at local rivals Caernarfon.

All six games were postponed in Division One East, but there was one match on in East Central as Rumney solidified their position at the top of the table with a hard-fought 13-7 away win over Rhiwbina. In Division One West Central Bonymaen moved to first place with a hard fought 25-15 away at Tondu, while Ammanford beat Glynneath 20-13 in an entertaining game at the Recreation Ground.

Skewen were the big winners in West Central as they comprehensively beat Nantyfyllon 36-5 with tries from Will Pope, Richard Davies, Tom Kingdom, and Lee Dunsford.
