This was the only Premiership match of the weekend with many of the games falling victim to the uncertainty of Coronavirus crowd restrictions. But the supporters who did turn up at Parc Erias would have been truly entertained by fast flowing game of rugby.

RGC opened the scoring from the ever-reliable boot of former Scarlets academy product Dion Jones who converted a penalty after 14 minutes.  The early lead spurred on the home side and after a spell of strong play by their forwards RGC scored the first try of the game.

Rhodri King powered over from a driving maul to punish Cardiff for conceding three straight penalties. Jones then added the extras for a 10-lead.  Cardiff soon showed their experience by getting back in the game through a penalty try which was started by a Dan Fish break.

Then from the restart the promising Cameron Winnett scored Cardiff’s second try of the match to put them in front. Impressively, after the two quickfire tries, Steve Law’s Cardiff scored a third just three minutes later through Ryan Wilkins who crashed over to give his side a 19-10 lead.

In what as end to end first half, RGC hit back when their consistent phase play was rewarded with a Jordan Jones converted try but Cardiff soon responded with an Alun Rees try to seal an early bonus point and lead at the break by 26 points to 17.

Cardiff showed no sign of relenting as the second half got underway.  Sean Moore scored their fifth try of the game after some good work by the forwards but RGC’S Dion Jones soon scored to let Cardiff know that they still had a game on their hands.

Former Ospreys player Morgan Allen and Alex Everett then seized control of the game for Cardiff with tries number six and seven respectively which put the South Wales side in front by 45 points to 24.

Cardiff ruthlessly continued the rout with a superb individual try from Ellis Bevan to take their points tally past 50. Jacob Beetham was solid on kicking duty and finished the match with five conversions to his name. A battling RGC were rewarded with a bonus point as they scored in the last play of the game to make final score 52-29 to Cardiff.
