Two weeks ago they rocked the home side as they head home with a 27-25 win and head coach Craig Evans has prepared his side for another smash and grab raid.

“It will be interesting to see what sort of side we play against following the news that the Cardiff Rugby game in Toulouse has been called off,” said Evans, who has led his side to an early lead in the Indigo Group Premiership.

“I’m expecting them to put out a really strong team, especially after our win a few weeks ago. They were disappointing that day and we fronted up and came away with a good victory.

“We are good enough to score tries against anyone, although as this is a cup game it doesn’t really matter if you win by a point or 10 – it is all about winning and staying on course for the final.

“I’m really happy with the way we are progressing. I’ve told the players that if they thought it was tough last time we went to the Arms Park, it is going to be so much harder this time.”

Cardiff head coach Steve Law read the riot act to his players after that defeat and got an immediate reaction from them. Last week they headed north to face RGC and came away with a 52-29 triumph.

RGC host Pontypridd today in the re-arranged pool game that will determine who goes on to play Llandovery in the last eight. Pontypridd will have to win the game to stand any chance of progressing.

Newport, who were the top team in the East with eight wins from their 10 games, host Bridgend in the other quarter-final being played this weekend. Aberavon’s home clash with Merthyr has been put back to 13 February.

The Ravens haven’t played since 11 December, when they travelled to Newport and were beaten 25-9 at Spytty Park.

There is a full round of matches in the Admiral Championship with unbeaten Bargoed looking to extend their seven point lead at the top of the table in their home clash with fourth placed Narberth.
