Despite being behind for most of the game due to tries from Neath’s Ryan Evans and Aaron Grabham, Bargoed fought back in a thrilling contest courtesy of scores from Jordan Howells, Adam Powell and James Leadbetter. Bargoed’s discipline made things difficult for them in large parts of the match but their winning mindset eventually got them over the winning line.
Second place Bedwas secured their seventh win of the season with a 21-3 win at a wet and muddy Beddau. Rory Harries scored a brace and Dale Rogers also crossed over for Bedwas. Matty Bancroft kicked six points for the winners whilst Beddau’s only points came from the boot of Hywel Chatham.
Beddau did not give up throughout and Bedwas did well to navigate their way through the tricky conditions. Reigning Championship champion’s Pontypool made it four wins from five as they beat a tough Narberth side 29-17 away from home at a packed Lewis Lloyd Ground.
Hooker Darren Hughes was the first of five try scorers for Pontypool. The other four tries went to Kieran Meek, Aaron Quick, Patrick Lewis and Sam Scarfe. Leighton Jones’ Pontypool were the sharper of the two teams in attack and that proved to be decisive. Narberth however provided a stern test for Pooler and gave maximum effort throughout.
Cardiff Met secured back to back league wins with a 21-5 victory over Ystrad Rhondda. Ewan Bowden gave the Archers their first try after a well worked carry followed by a savvy kick set up the score in style. Jake Bond took the game away from Ystrad with another try. Haydn Lidstone got all the other Met points from the boot. The Rhondda based side struggled for possession throughout and that cost them.
Tata Steel remain bottom after losing their seventh straight game with Maesteg Harlequins winning 19-3. There were also wins for mid-table Cross Keys and Glamorgan Wanderers over Ystalyfera and Trebanos respectively.
