Mitchell is toast of Tonna as he crashes over for a rare try

Former Wales and Ospreys prop Craig Mitchell got in on the try scoring action as Tonna cruised into the semi-finals off the WRU Shield with an 11 try demolition of Hollybush.

The 35-year-old crashed over to help steer his side to a 73-7 triumph, although the star of the show was Josh James, who helped himself to 28 points to send the leaders of the Admiral National League Division 3 West Central C in the final four.

In round one of the WRU Plate, Division 1 West Central leaders Aberavon Quins overcame a tough Kenfig Hill side 21-16, while Penallta were 36-12 winners at home over Cowbridge. Treorchy just held off Nant Conwy 27-20 in the other game. In the WRU Bowl, Llanharan won 27-3 at St Alban’s and Usk triumphed 29-10 at home against Ynysowen.

Blaenavon notched their first win of the season in the Admiral Division 1 East as they ran in four tries in a 24-10 victory at fellow strugglers Monmouth.
Callum Rowlands scored nine points for the visitors to spearhead the victory, which moves them off the bottom of the table and to within a point of their hosts in 10th place.

Dinas Powys had tries from Rhys Genitals and Tom Jenkins-Welch for their 12-0 on The Common against Porth Quins in Division 1 East Central. It was a victory that moved them up to third from bottom.

In the only other game played in the division, Rhiwbina notched a comfortable 22-5 home win over Cambrian Welfare. The Squirrels put points on the board early thanks to two Joseph Gale tries and a conversion from Charlie Elton.

The visitors hit back with a try from Richie Lewis try, but it was never gong to be enough to deny Rhiwbina their first win of 2022.

Dunvant ensured Sam Gallagher enjoyed his 100th appearance for the club as they pipped visiting Birchgrove 28-24 in Division 1 West Central. Tries from Rhys Barrow and Rhys Tucker gave the home side a boost and they also had a penalty try, while Joe Gage scored twice for the visitors on a bog-like pitch at Broadacre.

Skewen’s 25-10 home win over lowly Bridgend Athletic enabled them to increase their lead at the top of the West Central table to 10 points. A hat-trick of tries from Cai Morgan steered the home side to a bonus-point triumph and the lone Bridgend try came from Ben Cordin.

Llanelli Wanderers rocketed three points up the Division 1 West table thanks to a 15-3 home win over Crymych. Tries by Ellis Evans and Ben Chiffi gave the home side the advantage in difficult conditions.

In a bottom of the table clash in Penclawdd, the home side came out on top 24-7 against Pembroke to secure their first win of the season. Despite a try from Pembroke’s Lewys Gibby in the first half, Penclawdd ended with a comfortable 17-point lead after two tries from Marcus Brown, one from prop Liam Davey and a bonus-point score from replacement prop Josh Lynn.
