In their last two fixtures, Pontypool have amassed over 100 points with thumping wins at Ystrad Rhondda and at home to Trebanos, winning 5-56 and 45-14 respectively.

“We are doing well at the moment but tomorrow will bring a totally different challenge,” said Alex Quick, Pontypool attack coach

“We know how important this game is and all the lads know that as well. This is the one game everybody looks forward to, in both camps I’d imagine, both sides have been competing well and we are just looking forward to the challenge.

“Now it is all about building for next season, we want to be as best placed as we can be to be in line for a possible promotion spot as from our understanding the WRU are considering bringing in promotions next season.  We have some young boys in the squad at the moment so this will be a big test for them, one of those moments where they either sink or swim but we have been doing well with ball in hand and we are going in with confidence, so we are looking forward to the challenge.”

Pontypool’s opposition Bargoed sit at the top of the table just one point ahead of second placed Bedwas, so they will be hoping to secure their tenth win of the campaign. Bargoed come into this fixture without the game time that Pontypool have had.

In recent weeks they have faced postponed games and have not had an outing in the Championship since mid-March when they overcame Tata Steel away 19-56. However, they have not lost a game this campaign showing why they deserve to be top of the table so it should be a thrilling affair this weekend.

Elsewhere in the Championship this weekend, Glamorgan Wanderers host Narberth in a clash of the middle of the table. The home side sit in ninth place and will be hoping to close the gap on Maesteg Quins just three points in front.

They will go into this game hoping for a win after a dip in form last week saw them struggle against Cross Keys in a 34-18 loss.  But before that, they managed to sneak a win against second placed Bedwas in a 16-12 thriller at home.

Meanwhile, Narberth take seventh spot and go into this game with an uneven run of form in recent weeks. Last week, they narrowly lost out to Bedwas 31-25 but their previous game saw them overcome Trebanos away by a comfortable 22 point margin.
