Steelmen duo showing their mettle

Ebbw Vale centurion Lewis Young is proving a master of the dark arts in this season’s Indigo Premiership.

After five rounds of action in the Premiership, the flanker has claimed 12 turn overs to lead the ‘turnovers won’ category. He has been a major influence in Jason Strange’s pack this campaign and even though Ebbw Vale are currently sitting in fifth place on the points table, that position doesn’t reflect their efforts on the pitch.

Two narrow defeats to Cardiff and Llandovery in their most recent outings could so easily have gone the other way and with the likes of Young in top form, the Steelmen could have a major say in this year’s destination of the trophy.

Swansea’s Callum Bowden (8) and Cardiff’s Nathan Hudd (7) have also made a nuisance of themselves while former Wales U20s stars Ethan Fackrell (RGC) and Harri Deaves (Swansea) have claimed six turnovers apiece.

Ebbw Vale No. 8 Gethin Williams has made the most tackles in the league (45) to show he is working well in unison alongside Young.

Aberavon flanker Joe Tomalin-Reeves in next in line with 41 tackles, just one ahead of Carmarthen’s Thomas Curry.

Fackrell, who starred in Wales U20’s summer campaign in Italy where Byron Hayward’s side reached the final of the U20 Summer Series, has made more jackal attempts (25) than any other player.

Aberavon’s Joe Thomas has attempted 20 jackals while Llanelli’s Chris Long and Wizard Sam Williams have both attempted 16.
