It was a great night for Dewi Cross, who ran in a second half hat-trick, while young outside half Harrison James kicked 17 points with seven conversions and a penalty. It was a win that moved the Blue & Blacks into second place as they made it five wins from five.
They have a weekend off in the cup this weekend before hosting Llandovery at the Arms Park on Saturday, 29 October. The Drovers are level on points after winning their opening five games, while Aberavon are eight points clear at the top after playing one more game.
It took only four minutes for the champions to pounce on Llanelli’s first mistake as James Beal made the ground to send Ellis Bevan over for the first try of the night. Three more followed before the break as the visitors secured their bonus-point, Beal, Nathan Hudd and Marc Thomas all crossing to make it 29-5 at half-time.
There were four more tries in the second half as Cardiff revealed their ruthless streak, with Cross scoring three of them. Ellis Thomas grabbed the other one, while Llaneli had tries from Jac Price, Luca Giannini and Jac Davies, two of which Josh Phillips converted.
The attention in the top tier now turns to the WRU Premiership Cup this weekend, with one game in each group taking place. Cup holders Newport will be hoping for a better result at St Helen’s this weekend than last, when they were beaten there by Swansea in the Indigo Prem.
Llandovery make a quick return to The Wern, where they won 36-12 last month. The other games see Carmarthen Quins welcome RGC and Bridgend host unbeaten Aberavon.
