Gwent’s stunning 16-14 home win in Round 7 means there are now only eight points between the top six teams – with two more only a further point behind.

The big match of the day, which will be live on S4C Clic, will be between table-topping Coleg Y Cymoedd and reigning champions Cardiff & Vale College at Sardis Road (Wednesday, 26 October).
Fresh from a bruising battle against Ysgol Glantaf, who they beat 14-7 thanks to tries from Owain James and Scott Delnevo, CAVC will be checking on the fitness of a number of players ahead of their clash with Cymoedd at ‘The House of Pain’.
“Glantaf played really well against us and could and possibly should have won the game. We went in and tried to overpower them and turned it into a bit of a war, which probably worked against us,” admitted CAVC director or rugby, Martyn Fowler.
“We should have played more. It was a big win for us in the end, although we were extremely lucky. We picked up a lot of injuries, which we are still assessing.
“The league this season is far closer and far tougher than it has been for a few years and as Coleg Gwent proved last week, anyone can beat anyone on the day at the top end of the table. It is going to be a fascinating run-in to the end of the league season to determine who reaches the final.”
Gwent head to Glantaf for another intriguing fixture, with the home side in desperate need of a win to stay in the hunt after back-to-back defeats to Sir Gar and CAVC. They are a point ahead of Gwent in the table.
Sir Gar host Neath Port Tabot College, while Gower College could do themselves a major favour if they can make it five wins in a row by bearing last season’s runners-up, Llandovery College, at home.
