But the game was marred with fighting towards the end of both halves, which ruined a brilliant spectacle of Friday night rugby.
Early on, Aberavon eventually broke the deadlock with a scintillating try from young scrum half Liam Seaward, who showed great pace to finish his opportunity well.
Against the run of play, the Wizards grabbed the game’s next score. After stealing a lineout, Sam Williams went on a rampaging run and found Seaward, who finished the counter attack off with a wonderful burst of pace.
For all of their endeavour, Ebbw Vale found themselves 12-0 down. But the Steelmen turned the game on its head with two quick tries from Lewis Young and Evan Lloyd, either side of half time.
Aberavon looked all at sea, following several injury replacements. And Ebbw Vale capitalised when Gethin Williams found his way over the line in the corner.
Aberavon pushed for a losing bonus point. But Lloyd added a penalty, edging the visitors two scores ahead. There were some unsavoury scenes when fighting which broke out towards the final whistle. Three red cards were produced, before Andrew Waite scored for Aberavon.
But the Steelmen held on for a huge win on the road.
Llandovery’s impressive start to the season continued as they thrashed Llanelli 54-21 at Parc y Scarlets on Thursday night.
The Drovers’ pack held the ascendancy throughout, especially their scrum, with outside-half Jack Maynard, kicking them into an early 9-0 lead before Wales cap Adam Warren powered over for their opening try.
Things went from bad to worse for Llanelli when wing Ben Raivalitia got sent to the sin bin for illegally killing the ball at the breakdown. Llandovery took a 23-6 lead into the interval with Craig Thomas scoring their second try, while Josh Phillips kicked six point for Llanelli.
The visitors began the second-half in the same manner they had finished the first with some lovely handling up the short-side releasing Aaron Warren finished expertly at the far left-hand corner. To their credit Llanelli refused to throw in the towel and were awarded a penalty try as their maul crept towards the line.
But Llandovery were always a step ahead and they secured the bonus point with a sensational pass-kick from Maynard collected by Warren who touched down. The visitors flexed their muscles further with their forward power yielding a penalty try which also sent Llanelli’s Chris Long to the sin bin.
Jack Davies claimed a consolation try but Thomas then crashed over for his second try for Llandovery before they rubbed further salt into Llanelli’s wounds with another penalty try. Last night top of the table Aberavon took on Ebbw Vale at the Talbot Athletic Ground while there are four Premiership fixtures being played today (SATURDAY).
“We really targeted this game and it was nice to come down to Llanelli and get a big win,” said Llandovery number 10 Maynard. “But we want to start looking up the table and targeting big teams like Cardiff.
“We were unlucky when we played them two weeks ago but we’ve got some very good players in our squad and we are backing ourselves this season. Over the last few seasons we have been up near the top but have always come up just short.
“We’ve got the squad but we just need to make the right decisions in the right areas. We’ve targeted the first 10 minutes of every second-half because that was leaving us down last season so we can back up what we’ve done in the first-half.
“We are always looking for the complete performance.” Steve Law’s Cardiff will be firm favourites when they take on a Bridgend side who are rooted to the bottom of the table.
Elsewhere, Ty Morris’ Newport travel to West Wales to take on a struggling Carmarthen Quins outfit while Pontypridd welcome Merthyr to Sardis Road. Swansea also face RGC1404 at St Helen’s.
