The Gwent Valleys side had lost their last two games on the road away to RGC in Colwyn Bay and Llandovery but this victory was never really in doubt. It meant Jason Strange’s side were able to move back into the top four play-off places with an impressive bonus-point win.
The return to Eugene Cross Park clearly suited the Steelman and they controlled this game with scrum-half Jonathan Evans at the forefront of most of the good things they did.
Coach Jason Strange saw his side run in five tries to record the vital bonus point to move them into third place on the table ahead of Aberavon.
“I was really pleased with the five points and there were some good individual performances, especially Ethan Phillips and Curtis Gregory, who played his best performance for the club. It was a positive performance and it was good to collect the bonus point,” said Strange.
Fly-half Keiran Meek had an impressive evening with the boot and was named Player of the Match after he guided his side a comfortable win.
When the two sides last met in the league, Llanelli suffered a 36-26 defeat to Ebbw Vale at Parc Y Scarlets. But Vale were simply to strong and well organized and really had the bit between their teeth for a young Llanelli side and were never really in trouble.
Ebbw Vale, who have been one of the most impressive sides in the league so far this campaign, got their league campaign back on track with this win.
They suffered two disappointing defeats in their previous two games but looked like they side as many people’s favourites for a top four play-off place.
Fly-half Josh Phillips gave a young Llanelli side an early lead with a penalty before Ebbw Vale hit their stride and dominated the game. Scrum-half Evans, Number 8 Chad Thomas then crossed for try each to give the home side a 14-3 lead at half-time.
After the break, the Steelman dominated proceedings with centre Ethan Phillips and wing Liam Lloyd crossing for tries to stretch the home side’s lead.
Before replacement Evan Lloyd came off the bench and finished off an impressive win for Ebbw Vales by crossing for a try that he converted.
Llanelli are rooted at the bottom of the table and have only won two games all season. The West Walians last win in the league was against Pontypridd at Sardis Road back in October.
