Newport will be hoping to back up their 17-10 win at Aberavon last weekend when they host Carmarthen Quins tonight (Wednesday), before table-topping Cardiff attempt to get back to winning ways at home against Bridgend. They went down to second laced Llandovery at Church Bank last week and are now catchable at the top.
That game is on Thursday night, with Llandovery hosting Aberavon on Friday. That same night, Ebbw Vale will welcome Merthyr to Eugene Cross Park for arguably the game of the week.
The Ironmen have moved up into third place, while Aberavon’s defeat and their own 31-24 win at Swansea, moved The Steelmen back into the play-off places. With only three points between them, and with home and away games against each other to come, the results from Friday and on 15 April at The Wern will be crucial.
RGC, now down to seventh and running out of games, host Pontypridd on Saturday. Ponty have slumped to one off the bottom and haven’t won in their last three games.
Newport picked up a few injuries in their win at Aberavon and head coach Ty Morris will leave selection until the morning of the match. He told his players they needed to win all remaining eight games before last weekend to stand any chance of reaching the play-offs and tonight will be the second opportunity to move on up.
