The bad news for the home side is they have to travel to Pontypool Park this weekend for the return fixture. Skipper Scott Matthews once again led the way with two tries and there was also a brace for fellow back row man Ieuan Jones. The other tries came from Mathew Powell, Adam Brown, Mike Herbert, Dai Langdon, Huw Anderson and Joel Mahoney, with Langdon kicking six conversions.
Bargoed managed to pick up their bonus-point with four tries in a 26-10 home win over Ystrad Rhondda before the game was ended on the hour mark due to fog. The result stands and the Bulls moved clear of Cross Keys in third place.
Neath remain tied on 74 points with unbeaten Pontypool at the top of the table thanks to a 33-12 win at Cardiff Met. The visitors ran in five tries through wings James Roberts and Louis Rees, while scrum-half Luc Jones, No 8 David Griggs and outside half Steff Williams got the others.
Williams added four conversions to move up to 187 points for the season. Osian Hill and prop Conor Chapman crossed for the home tries.
Beddau made it three wins in a row as they triumphed in horrendous conditions on the all-weather surface at Ystrad Mynach to beat Cross Keys 20-14 in the Admiral Championship.
Two penalties from Ben Griffiths gave the Green & Golds a great start and then a try from Evan Griffiths just before the break – his sixth in three games – was also converted by Griffiths to make it 13-0 to the visitors at the break.
A second try, this time for Ben Lee, was also converted by Griffiths to make it 20-0 before Keys got their act together and responded.
They hit back with a try from Cameron Davies, which Sam Berry converted, and a second before the end at least earned Keys a losing bonus-point.
In Division 1 East, a last play try from Jake Crockett earned Brecon a share of the spoils at home against Brynmawr. It ended 15-15 and was more beneficial to league leaders Newbridge that either team.
Unbeaten Newbridge are currently 18 points clear of Brynmawr at the top and are 19 clear of third place Brecon. Brecon have only just reached the half-way mark with 11 games played, while the ‘Mawr are on 16 and Brecon 14.
Ynysybwl’s recent revival continued with a 26-18 win at Rhiwbina. That followed their 32-29 triumph at Barry and their 10-10 draw with the Squirrells last month.
Pwllheli closed the gap at the top of Division 1 North to nine points on second placed Ruthin thanks to their 22-5 home win over Caernarfon. They also have two games in hand, although unbeaten Nant Conwy are well ahead with 52 points in first place.
Skewen fell to a 15-7 defeat at Glynneath in Division 1 West Central to miss out on the chance of closing the gap on foiurth placed Kenfig Hill. Their single losing bonus point took them up to 32 points, thanks to a try from Rory Morgan-Williams which he also converted, but Kenfig have 36 and Ammanford, in the third and final promotion slot, have 38.
