Llandaff North looking to reinforce status

Road to Principality

Llandaff North Ladies are looking to reinforce their status as one of the leading teams in Wales when they take on Pontyclun Falcons in this evening’s showpiece Women’s National Cup final at Principality Stadium.

Llandaff North enjoyed a hugely successful 2021/22 season, culminating in a League and Cup double.

With the 2022/23 season often frustrated with limited opportunities to play and the stop start nature of the campaign, it has been a largely successful one again for Llandaff North as they return to the Principality Stadium for the cup final in successive seasons.

Starting with a trip to COBRA RFC in mid Wales, Llandaff North have played a mix of league, cup and friendly fixtures over the course of the season. Heading into the final, the team have scored over 450 points over 13 fixtures, with 74 tries with 20 different contributors crossing the try line.

One of the main notes from the club as they have progressed over the last few seasons has been an emphasis on the team rather than individual performances. That said, the back three players, Zoe Heeley, Amberley Ruck, and Biba Chuta have had another prolific season with both Keely Ward and Cerys Ballett also offering a significant try threat up front. Claudia Meyrick has also contributed an additional 72 points from the boot.

Saturday’s Cup Final will be another opportunity for the team to excel, especially with the added pressure as the business end of the campaign reaches a conclusion.

But the Falcons will have other ideas, as coach Steve Roberts admits.

“Having been runners up in the final in previous years we are hoping to take it to the next level and bring the cup home to Pontyclun.

“It has been a pleasure and a privilege to play my part in the journey to the final. Since joining Falcons I have been hugely impressed by not only the commitment and efforts of the squad but also the skill levels and knowledge of the game. The players are one of the best teams in Wales.”
