They scored five tries during a dominant display against dogged opponents who plugged away through the accurate boot of centre Fletcher Picton but rarely threatened the Cheesemen’s line.
Llangwm’s scrum was superior early on with tighthead prop Aled Roberts turning on the power to win a couple of penalties which outside-half Liam Rees kicked for position.
They took the lead in the sixth minute through a monster 46m penalty from centre Fletcher Picton. But it was short-lived as Caerphilly responded with an unconverted try in the corner from captain Noah Evans to take a 5-3 advantage.
Their confidence grew and they probed for another score with Llangwm struggling to keep them at bay. Llangwm had play-maker Rees stretchered off with an ankle injury, Owen Phelps replacing him.
Full-back Ryan Williams, a Wales U18 rugby league international who is on the books of Super League side Salford Reds, was the instigator of Caerphilly’s second try, his kick ahead bouncing kindly for chasing outside-half Tom Lewis to touch down following a foot race.
Williams missed the difficult conversion but hit the target for a 17-3 lead after scrum-half Carter Pritchard, the grandson of former league star Gordon Pritchard, dummied at the base of a ruck following a powerful carry from flanker Jack Llewellyn to score.
Picton pulled back three points for Llangwm with a penalty from in front of the sticks but it took determined defence from them to hold a charging Caerphilly No.8 Sam Graves up over the try-line for a goal-line drop-out.
However, they were unable to prevent Graves from scoring Caerphilly’s fourth try seconds later for a deserved 22-6 lead at the interval. It would have been more but Williams didn’t have his best half with the boot, missing with four out of his five attempts at goal.
Picton responded with three penalties in the second half to reduce the arrears to seven points with Caerphilly having substitute hooker Kody Thomas sin-binned for killing the ball at a ruck.
But Caerphilly reasserted their authority with a fifth try, through lock Rhodri Rees, successfully converted by Williams for a 14-point advantage. They wrapped it up with a penalty from centre Harrison Parsons.
