Fly half Matthew Jarvis looks likely to be the first player to burst through the century mark. After seven rounds he has amassed 88 points and finds himself 10 points clear of nearest challenger, Cardiff’s Harrison James.
Flanker Scott Matthews is leading from the front for Pooler, heading the list on three sections and featuring highly in two others. He is proving a heavyweight in defence. Alongside Cardiff’s Craig Hudd, he has claimed 1t turnovers this season, two ahead of nearest challenger, Ebbw Vale’s Jakub Malecki.
Matthews has made 17 counter ruck attempts and he is some way in the distance when it comes to being effective post tackle (58%) too. With 33 jackals, he is only one behind Llandovery’s Stuart Worrall and has made the second most carries (77) in the Premiership, with Cardiff’s Morgan Allen (81) the only player ahead of him in that category.
But it hasn’t been a one-man show for Pooler. Young hooker Sam Scarfe has taken to the Prem like a duck to water. The Wales U20 hooker has made more choke tackles (5) than any other player but also features in two other sections, turnovers won and post tackle.
Scarfe’s Wales Under 20 colleague Huw Anderson is among the contenders in the ‘line-breaks’ section, alongside Aberavon’s Franie Jones and Newport’s Lloyd Lewis who all have broken the line on five occasions, but it’s Llandovery’s Aaron Warren who leads the way with seven with Bridgend’s Edd Howley next in line with six. Howley, who is having a productive season with the Ravens, has beaten more defenders (25) than any other player in the league this season.
