Grant Robson, WRU Training Education Officer, states “The WRU is excited by the opportunity to continue its collaboration with Minecraft Education and Hwb, with this highly engaging and innovative digital competition.”
Minecraft Esport Cymru will continue to develop the culture and ethos associated with rugby and ensure this is translated into the new programme. Proving an opportunity for demonstration of mastery, or a sense of community and leadership, esports can provide many of the same benefits as traditional sports in schools. Moreover, esports are often an outlet for learners who might be “uninterested or felt excluded from traditional sports or other extracurricular activities.” (Rourke 2022). It’s a space and place for ALL learners to shine!
Minecraft Esport Cymru will be formed from a collection of teams from the regions, who will play in regional tournaments for Primary and Secondary schools. Where possible mirroring the areas of Welsh rugby league.
WRU Hub Officers will be supporting their region by promoting, organising, and hosting friendly matches in December. Then from January to April 2024 official league tournaments. Leading to the National Finals at Principality Stadium as part of the ‘Road to Principality’ festival.
Book onto a two-part workshop in December to learn more about Minecraft Esport and how to implement esports in your school. Minecraft Esport Cymru helps build community and learner skills through competition, play and learning in an environment where learners thrive!
Already have Minecraft Esport setup in your school, then register your schools Minecraft Esport team:
