There was once again reason for celebration at St Peter’s RFC in Cardiff last weekend after the club’s second XV secured the WRU East Black Conference title.
The Rocks’ 51-29 win over their Bargoed counterparts in the last of their 10 league fixtures for the season was their eighth win of the campaign and means that they now cannot be caught by the chasing sides.
The team has lost just twice in a league that also includes strong second string teams from Cardiff Met, Penallta, Rumney and Bedwas.
A hat-trick form wing Toby Mainstone provided the inspiration, while there was a try each for hooker Joel Coughlin, No8 Dan Murphy, scrum-half Liam Robinson, outside-half Tom Jeans and centre Olly Smythe. Jeans successfully converted four of the eight tries as well as kicking a penalty.
Rugby is certainly thriving at Minster Road with St Peter’s successfully running three senior sides.
The first team were crowned Division 1 East champions last season and are now plying their trade in Admiral Championship East.
Meanwhile, the thirds are currently sitting pretty near the top of Division One of the Cardiff & District league.
