Bargoed remain on course for a league and cup double after they won 36-8 at Bedwas to also cement their top five place in Admiral Championship East.
Fresh from their crushing 65-12 triumph over Ystrad Rhondda at the Principality Stadium to lift the WRU Championship Cup six days earlier, the Bulls’ win at Bedwas moved them to within six points of current leaders Cardiff Met – with four games in hand.
Jak Robbins’ try gave hosts Bedwas the lead, but Bargoed hit back to take the spoils thanks to tries from Morgan Edwards, Matthew Lewis, Calum Jones, captain James Leadbeater and Dylan Williams. Josh Prosser kicked four conversions and a penalty.
Bargoed will be playing their rugby in their new 13-team community Premiership next term – as will Cardiff Met who had already made sure of the top five when they beat St Peter’s 19-16 last Tuesday.
Will Keep, Matthew Flanagan, Elliott Keep (2), Daf Rees and Alex Langworthy were among the Pitmen try scorers. Will Keep kicked two conversions and Matthew Brewer one.
Rumney got the better of Glamorgan Wanderers 27-21, while beaten cup finalists Ystrad Rhondda were beaten 36-26 at Cross Keys. Lawrence Donnelly scored a hat-trick Keys who also had Tom Sullivan and Ralph Miller among their try scorers with Adam Tetley contributing 11 points from the tee.
Tom Foulkes, Kurtis Williams, Iestyn Griffiths and Cole Morgan scored for Ystrad. Lewis Williams kicked three conversions.
Elsewhere, Newbridge beat Treorchy 48-8. Sam Watkins, Cian Jones, Ieuan Jones grabbed two tries for Newbridge. Matthew Davies got their other try with Robbie Turley sending over five conversions and a penalty.
In Championship West, Narberth took another step towards the title after they won 35-10 at Maesteg Quins. Lewys Gibby scored twice alongside tries for Josh Evans, Guto Davies and Aled Rees. Jonathan Rogers converted all five tries to ensure the Otters retain a four point advantage over Brecon with two to play.
Brecon were 37-24 victors at Newcastle Emlyn, where Sam Jones, twice, Oliver Lewis, Geraint Walsh and Jake Crockett grabbed the Brecon tries. Dion McIntosh added three conversions and two penalties.
Dunvant were unable to raise a side and meant their game with Llangennech was called off while Bonymaen beat Ystalyfera 31-13. Nathan Brooks, Rhys Leonard, Nick Clancy, Garan Williams and Lawrence Thomas scored for Bonymaen.
Tries from Steff Lewis and Cerith Davies along with five penalties and a conversion from Rhys Harris guided Trebanos to a 27-24 win against Crymych.
