WRU Stay Onside Campaign – Refresh your Anti-Doping Knowledge

The WRU, through its Stay Onside programme is continuing its partnership with the UK Anti-Doping Agency (UKAD) in commemorating the Clean Sport Week 2024.

Clean Sport Week, taking place from 13 – 17 May 2024 serves as a nationwide initiative aimed at raising awareness about the importance of clean sport and the detrimental effects of doping in all forms of Sport. This year’s theme, Journey to the Podium underscores the collective responsibility of athletes, coaches, officials, and sporting organisations in safeguarding the integrity of sport.

Throughout the week, UKAD will be showcasing the importance of the clean sport journey through the  lens of athletes and the elite sport community. Anti-doping should be a key part of

every athlete and support personnel’s journey – it should never be an afterthought.

Clean sport is an essential part of our athletes’ journeys to the podium / in professional sport. It takes a lifetime of work, commitment and a network of support to help athletes perform at the very top. This effort can be taken away in a moment by doping. Creating a culture of clean sport is essential for the health and welfare of our players and the integrity of our Game.

We encourage anyone in our rugby community that would like to learn more and to refresh its knowledge about anti-doping to sign up to UKAD’s Clean Sport Hub where there are free education courses for players, students, coaches and practitioners.

As the WRU remains committed to upholding the values and integrity of the Game and clean competition within the rugby community, the WRU Integrity Team will be issuing key reminders and responsibilities to all Players, to ensure that everyone stays well-informed and refreshed of all anti-doping responsibilities.

The WRU also continue to support community clubs through the Stay Onside campaign by engaging with community clubs through our Club Integrity Officers, to promote anti-doping and provide key messages and advice to players within the community game.

The WRU Head of Policy and Integrity, Jeremy Rogers stated:   the UKAD clean sport week acts as a timely reminder of the importance of promoting a culture of clean sport and serves as an excellent opportunity for all players and support personnel to refresh their Anti-Doping knowledge.  We remain committed in supporting our players and player support personnel through our continued engagement and education strategy, to ensure that they fully understand their key obligations, responsibilities and consequences.
