Admiral

Bonymaen hauled themselves off the foot of the Admiral Premiership table and to within a point of safety after coming from behind to secure a 30-25 home triumph over in-form Cross Keys.

Scrum-half Gareth Andrew was at the double at Parc Mawr, where there was also a try apiece for second row Joe Yeates and replacement Zac Pearce. Full-back Lawrence Thomas added 10 points with the boot.

Keys led 10-0 early on and re-took the lead twice more during the match, but they would ultimately have to settle for two bonus-points – with this defeat ending their three-match winning streak.

Second row Kiaran Lewis, flanker Louis Pullen, wing Laurence Donnelly and replacement Tom Burnham were the Keys scorers. Adam Tetley kicked a conversion and a penalty.

The result takes Bonymaen above Newcastle Emlyn – who now prop up the table after they lost 59-24 at Cardiff Met.

Captain Ben Murphy and prop Max Surry both bagged try braces for the Archers with wing Henry Kirwan, flanker Liam Jones, number eight Will Owen, full-back Josh Carrington and replacement Jacob Willmott also on the scoresheet. Outside half Steff Crimp kicked five conversions and Ross McKay two.

Steff Evans, Aled Davies and Jac Crompton got the Emlyn tries, which were all converted by Ellis Payne who also sent over a penalty. The victory for Met ended a run of three consecutive league defeats.

“The boys put a good shift in through minute one to 80. I thought our physicality was immense and we just kept going,” said Met second row Gethyn Cannon.

“We had a big message of backing our driving maul and keeping the pressure on and I thought we did that really well, so it’s a good win to start the year off.

“It was definitely important after coming off a few losses and a few tough results. It’s good to get a nice big win at the start of the new year and will hopefully put us in a good stead for the rest of the season.”

Bargoed won 19-16 at Llangennech – who are now just a point above the bottom two, albeit with two games in hand. Rhys Thomas, Will Gregory and Owain Cooper got the Bargoed tries. Josh Prosser converted two of them. For Llan outside half Steff Marshall converted his own try and kicked three penalties.

Narberth pulled off a narrow 15-14 home win over Ystrad Rhondda. Outside half Jonathan Rogers scored a try, which he also converted, and kicked a penalty. Replacement Rob Evans also scored for the Otters.

Full-back Alex Webber and wing Kurtis Williams scored for the visitors, both converted by outside half Rhys Truelove.

The top of the table remains unchanged, with leaders Pontypridd not in action while the scheduled third verses second clash at The Wern between Merthyr and Neath was postponed due to the weather. Brecon against Newbridge was also postponed.
