This collaborative work will focus on exploring and implementing sustainable practices within Welsh rugby, with an emphasis on understanding the environmental footprint of the game at every level – from the iconic Principality Stadium in Cardiff to professional club grounds and community clubs across the country.

Following its extensive work with Cardiff Rugby, and in line with the WRU’s wider ‘One Wales’ strategy, RSK will now collaborate with the WRU, bringing the expertise to deliver practical solutions across rugby operations and facilities. Key areas of focus will include renewable energy, water management, infrastructure design and waste reduction, supporting the WRU’s efforts to embed sustainability and contribute to a healthier, more prosperous Wales. The WRU is committed to ensuring that the sport not only thrives on the field but leverages the sport to contribute positively to environmental and social sustainability, a commitment shared by RSK, whose ethos aligns with these values.

Leighton Davies, WRU Chief Finance Officer says, “Welsh rugby can be a catalyst for positive change. We hear incredible stories from across Wales on how rugby has had a positive impact on individuals, clubs and wider communities.

“The benefits of rugby aren’t just physical. Engaging in rugby can help to combat mental health, it can build trust within communities and improve wellbeing. We need to ensure our rugby environments are the best they can be, so rugby can thrive.

“We are committed to building a sustainable future for rugby in Wales, and we are delighted to work with RSK to ensure that our sport plays a central role in creating a healthier environment where everyone can engage in our game.”

RSK Group, along with its Cardiff-based environmental services company MSS Group, has had a long-standing relationship with Welsh rugby, having already forged a successful partnership with Cardiff Rugby, with MSS Group in 2020, and in 2023 announced RSK as its Principal partner to help the club achieve its sustainability goals. The company will now provide the WRU with expert consultancy to assess the current sustainability efforts within Welsh rugby, identifying key opportunity areas and practical, actionable recommendations.

RSK founder and CEO Alan Ryder says, “At RSK, we are committed to delivering environmental and engineering solutions that create lasting positive change. We are excited about the collaboration with the WRU and the opportunity to embed these solutions for the benefit of rugby and communities across Wales. We also look forward to seeing this relationship grow through future projects.”

This collaboration between the WRU and RSK reflects a shared commitment to creating a more sustainable future for Welsh rugby, ensuring that the sport continues to have a positive impact on players, fans, staff, volunteers, and communities across Wales for years to come.
