Wales Women to defend Euro 7s title
Taking place in Lunel on June 2nd and 3rd 2007, the competition will involve ten of the best teams throughout Europe including established nations such as England and France and the competition is set to be very strong.
Coaches Fielies Coetsee and Ryan Harris have selected a mixture of experience players such as Non Evans and Mellissa Berry and exciting new talent in the likes of Wales U19 player Carys John in the team.
7s is becoming an important part of high performance women’s rugby development in Wales following the announcement of the IRB World Cup 7s taking place in 2009 in Dubai. This will see the top 16 women’s teams from across the world taking part and is being run alongside the men’s World Cup 7s.
Sophie Bennett, WWRU Academy and High Performance Manager, commented, “It is our aim to qualify for the World Cup in 2009 and although we are not sure of the exact qualification process at the moment, it is important we continue to develop our 7s to the highest level we can.
“7s is a great stepping stone to 15s rugby especially for skill and fitness development and gives a fantastic opportunity for players to show off their natural talents in a physically demanding game.”
