Davies: Just get us the ball
Wales have a potent back line including well known talent such as Britsh and Irish Lions stars Dwayne Peel, Gareth Thomas, Shane Williams, Gavin Henson and Rugby World Young Player of the Year James Hook.
Yet to perform they will need plenty of possession, something Welsh forwards have recently been unable to provide.
“If we get a fair share of possession we have the ability to beat anybody,” the Welsh Attack Coach said. “But our ability to gain possession and hold onto it is a major concern. There’s no hiding from that fact.”
With the Welsh management having full access to the players this summer Davies believes they can change all that.
“We have just started the process,” he said. “From my point of view, as an ex-regional coach, working pre-season to actually practise things was vital,” he said.
“That’s where we have fallen short. We have a game plan but have been unable to get enough ball to carry it out. The frustrating thing is we have got a lot more in us and haven’t had the opportunity to show it. Against England we showed glimpses of our potential.
“We have developed the team to a situation where we felt we got somewhere and played near to where we want to be on a consistent basis.
“It’s our intention to use the period before the World Cup to get our performance levels up to where they need to be. To have the ability to work with players to deliver the game plan we want is brilliant for us.”
