Price, who won 41 caps for Wales as a tight-head prop, played more than 600 games in the famous Pontypool front row alongside Bobby Windsor and Charlie Faulkner between 1969 and 1992. He received recognition for his services to rugby which include a record 12 successive Tests on three separate British & Irish Lions tours – to New Zealand in 1977, South Africa in 1980 and New Zealand again in 1983.
He made his debut for Wales in 1975 in a 25-10 victory over France in Paris, when he scored a 70 yard try. Grand Slams followed in 1976 and 1978 and he retired from international rugby in 1983, his last game for Wales also a match against France in Paris.
“Graham has been a great servant to Welsh rugby. He has continued to keep a close eye on the sport that his closest to his heart with his work for the media in recent years,” said WRU Group Chief Executive Roger Lewis.
“This is a fitting honour for him as well as a great honour for Wales to have one of the true ambassadors of our national sport recognised in this way.
“Graham is from an era of Welsh rugby which we all remember fondly, he was part of a famous front row partnership which featured an amazing 19 times together as one unit for Wales and is an integral part of what made us the great rugby nation we are today.”
Price was born on November 24th 1951 in Moascar, Egypt. He was educated at West Monmouth Grammar School and studied civil engineering at UWIST, Cardiff.
