WRU Audio: Scott Andrews discusses his award
The 18-year-old tight-head has helped the Cardiff side reach fourth position in the Principality Premiership ahead of the Christmas period. He is currently in the Wales U20 training squad and is set to turn out for the Blues U20 against the Ospreys U20 in the final of the Welsh Rugby Union’s U20 Reebok Regional Championship on December 27th 2007 at Ebbw Vale.
Andrews was voted for by a WRU Elite Performance panel and his award carries the prize of £100 in a Principality Building Society account.
“For a prop of his age to to perform to the high levels that Scott has so far this season is quite astonishing,” said Richard Hodges, Andrews’s Head Coach at Principality Premiership club Glamorgan Wanderers.
“He has been an integral part of our recent seven match unbeaten run and had a storming game against Cardiff to help us earn a memorable win at the Arms Park. We are fortunate to have seven Blues Academy players who have significantly influenced our current league position and if Scott continues to improve in this manner, he has got a great future ahead of him.
“Our current aim revolves around staying in the top five of the Principality Premiership and going as far in the Konica Minolta Cup competition as we possibly can. We have a banana skin of a local derby against Rumney in the Cup this weekend then it’s back to the league and we play Pontypridd at home on 22nd December and Bridgend away on the 29th and we will be pleased if we are still in the top five of the Principality Premiership after those games.”
Sian Williams, Manager at Canton branch of Principality, said: “Congratulations to Scott, a young player who shows great promise, on winning this award and to the team for their fantastic wins this month. I wish them well for the rest of the season.
“Principality Building Society prides itself on being at the heart of the local community, much in the same way as rugby clubs, up and down the country. That’s why the partnership between Principality Building Society and the Rugby Premiership is so successful and we’re delighted to be able to support our local heroes in this way.”
