The tight 20-16 win over France U20 on Friday night secured the dragons’ fourth straight win in Newport, but Wales U20 Coach Horgan, whose contract has been extended beyond this summer’s IRB Junior World Championships, reckons there is still a lot more work to do.
Horgan said: “We deserved to win but we’ve got huge areas to work on. The worrying aspect was we’ve lost the penalty count again. We give away too many daft penalties with players coming in on the side of rucks.
“I believe it’s something to do with some players playing in the Welsh Premiership and others in the first division. I will go and study the penalties in the next few weeks.”
Wales U20 started their title hopes with defeat to England U20 at Kingsholm but has bounced back in emphatic fashion with four wins in a row to finish in second spot, and Horgan believes the future is good for Wales U20 ahead of the global tournament on home soil.
Horgan said: “It’s been a successful campaign on the whole and we’ve satisfied with four wins out of five. It’s been evident that we’ve got a very good ten in Dan Biggar and Jevon Groves has stood up exceptionally well as captain.”
