Wales were left devastated after losing their opening match against USA in the last minute of play. If Wales had any chance of reaching the final, they had to beat the Canadians. However the North Americans proved stubborn opposition as both sides were locked at 11-11 at halftime.

That remained the scored until the 79minute when Harries powered her way over from close range to ensure the victory for Wales.

Wales had however made things difficult for themselves by not converting pressure into points, something which hindered them in their opening fixture. However there were still a couple of impressive individual performances with rookie second row Shona Powell-Hughes having a lively encounter while No8 Vicky Owens carried the ball well.

Harries made an impact when she came on as a 50th minute replacement while Ceri Redman was the pick of the backs however she has been ruled out of the rest of the tournament with a knee injury.

For Wales to reach the final, they must hope Canada beat USA and beat England or restrict the red rose brigade to a victory by less than 40 points.

Yasmin Leung and Magali Harvey traded early penalties to make it 3-3 before Sioned Harries put Wales in front with a well deserved try after a charge down. Leung increased the lead four minutes from the break with her second penalty but Canada struck back with a try by Harvey to even things up at the interval.

Fly half Elinor Snowsill pegged the Canadians back with some well judged kicking while Wales’s set piece also held the upper hand but just as it seemed lady luck wasn’t going to be on Wales’s side for the second game running, Lowri Harries eased the nerves with her timely touch down in the dying seconds.
